Friction calls part 101!!!

Illusion flat stroke bow call

The dictionaries defined friction as "The resistance encountered when one body is moved in contact with another".  What does that have to do with turkeys calls?  There are two kinds of turkeys calls available to hunters.  The first is A mouth call.  This is a call that you blow air or sound though it.  The problem with this kind of call is that they can be difficult to us and take skills to us right.  The other call is a friction call.  This is a call that you move one part of the call against a nether part of the call.  This kind of call can be ease to use and is very effective.

The first friction call that we will cover is a Box call.  This is the most command call on the market.
This type of call had been used for centuries.  This one call bring down more turkey ever year then any other call on the market.  The reason for this is the call is very ease to use.  I like the box call because it can be loud  when you want to reach out and touch that turkey.  The call cane also call soft when you need the turkey to come the last couple yards.

The biggest draw back to any friction call is that they don't work when they are wet.  There are some friction calls that work when are wet but don't sound as good.  The key to using a friction call is to keep it dry.  Bow hunter need to use a blind to hide form the turkey the blind can also keep you call dry.

The good people at Illusion have sent us the Flat stoke Bow call.    A box call has a handle that slides over a box  part of the call.  Chalk is applied to the handily to add more friction. A good call is made out of two different kind of hard wood.

Illusion flat strock box callThe Flat stoke box part of the call is made out of black walnut  and The paddle is made out of canary wood.  This call can make soft yelps or penetrating yelps.  The reason that you need a call with this rang of tones and volumes is to be able to change with the different situation.

As a bow hunter you want to carry as little as possible.  I'm a very strong believer in carrying only a couple calls.  Having a couple call that will cover all your calling needs will make you more affective  bow hunter.

The box call can be used to fine the turkeys that will not gobble. A loud yelp can shake the turkey into gobbling.   When you get the turkey to gobble you now have to get that turkey to come in.  Sounding like a couple different turkey will get the Tom attention. After the tom start moving you way using soft Yelps to bring in that tom.  Some times after you get the Tom gobbling the  best action is to make no nose at all.

The Flat Stroke box call is a high end call.  The cost is aroundillusion flat stroke box call $50.   I have use the "cheaper" call on the market and have though that they are as good as the expensive one.  After using the Flat Stroke the sounds that is made is some much Better then any low cost calls That I have used in the past.  I have found that the cheaper call are much easer to break in you turkey vest.

The key to any turkey call is to try it out before the season starts.  The people at Illusion have package this call with a CD that player in your computer or the CD payer in your truck.  The call is tuned and number for ease use.

One last point I want to make about calls.  You never us call when you are scouting for turkeys.  This will only train the turkeys to what your calls sound like.  Calling turkeys can be hard enough without letting the turkeys know what you sounds like.

Now get in the back yard or some parking lot and try out you calling.  Have a friend there to lesson to your calling.  You don't have to be perfect only close.  The worsted turkey calls I have head were made by a turkeys.
