I have thought long and hard before doing a review of a hunting video. A video to me should be something that you and a couple hunting pals could sit a round the TV at camp and watch at night.  It should have useful tips and be entertaining.  The video should show real- life hunting.  I hate seeing videos where the host is hunting with a guide and they say something useful like “having a good guide is himportant”. Then the guide’s phone number flashes on the screen.  I want to see a video that will show me how be become a better hunter.

We are reviewing the video Bushman Brook Hunting the High Country.  The video is a two day Bow Hunt in the Table Lands in Australian.  Brooks will be hunting wild feral goats.  At first I wondered why, but after watching the video it made be want to go and hunt them too.

I have been asked many times to do reviews of videos in the past but I have always refused.  I have found that most hunting videos are very long commercials for a product and are not very useful to most hunters.  A good video must give you some insight in to both the hunter and the hunting that is going to be undertaken in the video. I want to see is real life hunting in the video.

There are a few things that will look different when you watch the video.  First, he drives on the wrong side of the road. The other big thing was that he was bare foot when he was walking around trying to get his truck over a downed tree.  There are some words that will have no meaning to North American hunters.  He talks about Billy tea and a few others things that I have no idea what they meant.  This should not stop you from watching the video.

This Aussie bow hunter is a skilled outdoors man.  He shows his skill by giving us insight into some survival skills.  Other than a snake bandage, he gives you a good idea of the things you will need to bring with you to go bow hunting.  He shows where to get water and also shows us some useful plants.  He is a skilled woodsman.

The hunting parts of the video are very well done.  You see all the action as it happens.  You see and hear the arrow hit the game.  They show the goat running off. He shows how you should react after the hit and why you should act like that.  This is something that most bow hunters don’t do.  There is also some bow fishing.  This video shows how a successful bow hunt on the table land should happen.

He shows the tracking skills needed to kill the game before and after the shot.  He also shows how to care for the meat after the game is down. The video shows how to find the goats and what to do in different situations.  He shows how to make a Yowie suit which is also called a Ghillie suit.

This is a video that I would recommend for anyone. It is a lot of fun to watch.  It is very well done with excellent video of the hunt and the land that is being hunted. Below is the video that they have on youtube.I have also put a link to their website.
