Friction Call Part 2

Cutt-N-Run Turkey Call

The second Friction call that we will be talk about is the Slate call.  A slate call a call that is made up of a slate and a striker. Moving the end of the striker over the slate will make many different sounds.

The slate call is very ease to use.  It don't have the volume as the box call but, this call can be cup in the hand to defuse the sound.  The turkey can have a hard time pin pointing exactly where the call is coming from.

The striker is made out of cedar, walnut, hickory or any hardwood.Cutt-N-Run Turkey call slate Over the past five years many striker are being  made out of metal, fiber or plastic.  Different sticker can make different sounds on the same slate. By having a couple different sticker gives you the option to make the same call sound completely different.

The slate part of the call as the name implies is made out of slate.  Cutt-N-run slate turkey callThe slate is held in place in a container of some kind.  Many company including Cutt-N-Run put a second slate or glass under the first.  This adds dept to the sound coming out of the calls.  Cutt-N-Run call are hand crafted call that are made by American works.

The Slate call is very effective and is ease to use.  A Slate call can give you a different tone then the box call.  I hunt with two or three slate call and a hand full of strikers.  They are small and ease to carry. The key to using any slate call is the scoff up the top of the slate.  I have been using call made mostly in China and have scrape away the little slate that was on the call. In one cast I spent more money then it would have cost me to buy a Cutt-N-Run call.

Cutt-N-Run sent us one of there slate calls.  This call isCutt-N-Run turkey call a $35 dollars call.  As you can see from the photos this is a real nice hand made call. This call that we are reviewing is made out of Canary wood slate over glass with a custom made cocobolo striker.  They make many different call to meet all you needs.  The call are also hand made in North Carolina.

Cutt-n-run turkey callThe Striker that came with the call shows the craftsman that goes into the calls.  It is almost to nice to bring into the woods.  When you see a call like this you know you will have it for years.

This call feels like it is part of your hand.  There is no vibration as it is being used. The striker moves over the call with ease.  I have used many slate calls and have never seen it's equal.

The key to a good call is the quality of the slate.  Many company will spray on a surface onto a metal or plastic base.  The Cutt-N-Run call is a hand made in North Caroline by US works.

This is a call that will last you for years.  The high quality will sound better and last for years.
